United States Senator David Perdue wants to reverse US economic growth, increase unemployment, etc.
Or at least so it seems from his unsolicited email blast of a little while ago. Here I quote some of his key points and provide simple replies:
Senator David Perdue: “Since my first day in the Senate, I have been fighting to… develop a long-term plan to pay down this outrageous debt and get the economy growing again.”
You’ve been in office just short of a year. That’s plenty of time to come up with a plan. So what is it?
You also seem to be remarkably out of touch. The economy has been growing the best it has in decades and the budget deficit is down. The stock market is up. Unemployment is down. Are you hoping to reverse all of these?
Senator David Perdue: “Right now, Washington is essentially handing every American household a one million dollar bill because of the federal government’s irresponsible spending habits.”
Your math is incorrect and off by 642 percent. $18 trillion divided by 115,610,216 households (the US Census 2013 number) is $155,696. Please see www.USDebtClock.org to compare how we are doing now versus how we were doing in 2008. Incidentally our Total National ASSETS per household is just over $1,000,000. Maybe that’s what you meant by a one million dollar bill?
Senator David Perdue: “We must lower the corporate tax rate…”
Why? Do you know that our corporate tax rate is one of the lowest in the developed world? Actual rates average 12.5%.
Senator David Perdue: “… and incentivize American businesses to invest again.”
Please see the stock market, which is no doubt the best barometer of American business strength. It has almost tripled since early 2009.
Senator David Perdue: “With $18 trillion in federal debt today, and over $100 trillion in future unfunded liabilities, we must act now.”
Do you mean the $100 trillion in future unfunded liabilities if you use the scare tactic of projecting expenditures for the year 2016 to 2087 as others have been doing to get to numbers like yours? I understand. My grocery bill for 2016 to 2087 is also currently unfunded.
Emails like Senator David Perdue's are the reason we need a political aptitude test (PAT) and a US Citizenship test for all elected and appointed officials. More about that one day soon.
Senator Perdue, you're an experienced first-rate businessman. If someone on your staff came to you with such intellectual flim-flam, what would you say to him or her? And if this was how the rationalized their work to you, then what would you say to him or her? Next time you send out an unsolicited email blast, please give us proper facts and let us know what you have done for the United States to justify your position in this office.
