Soviet KV-1 tank
(List of photos at bottom of page).
The KV-1 tank was the heaviest tank in service any where in the world when it debuted. The tank appears to have been quite good overall. However, as with all Soviet tanks at the beginning of the war on the East Front, it was hampered greatly by weak optics and weaknesses in both tactical and operational doctrines. It had the same 76mm gun as the T-34, but had much better armor. Conversely, it was slower than the T-34, required much more raw materials to produce and more fuel to operate to only bring the same 76mm gun into action. The KV-1 served as the ancestor of the IS-1, IS-2 and IS-3 tanks.
